The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) saidcryptoingamesConsumer price index (CPI) data was inadvertently released 30 minutes early on Wednesday.
”
Before today's CPI and actual income data were released, BLS unexpectedly uploaded a subset of files to the website about 30 minutes early,"BLS said in a statement on its website late Wednesday.
The agency usually releases monthly consumer price reports at 8:30 local time and abides by strict agreements to prevent early release. Wall Street investors and central bank officials are closely watching the data for signs of where the economy is heading.
A month ago, it was reported that a BLS economist had communicated with major Wall Street companies such as JPMorgan Chase and BlackRock about data related to a key U.S. inflation indicator, raising questions about the fairness of access to economic information.
The latest event may prompt a deeper and broader review of the release of economic data, which will have an impact on trading in major assets and Fed policy.
BLS said it had notified the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Labor.
"BLS takes data security issues seriously and is conducting a comprehensive investigation of procedures and internal controls to ensure such incidents do not happen again," the agency said.
